WILLIAMS WELCOMES FAIR TRADING WATCHDOG FINDINGS ON LPG
Brecon & Radnorshire’s Liberal Democrat MP, Roger Williams, has hailed the recent announcement by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) that it is referring the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for an investigation by the Competition Commission, following the OFT’s own inquiry in to the LPG market.

SPATE OF FISH DISEASE OUTBREAKS MET WITH DEFRA INACTION
Following confirmation that multiple outbreaks of both Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD) and Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (VHS) have been found in fish stocks in England over the last month, Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Food and Rural Affairs has argued that the Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs is not prioritising aquaculture.

GOVERNMENT CAUGHT NAPPING AFTER 10,000 WHALES KILLED IN PAST 20 YEARS
As the annual general meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in St Kitts enters its vital decision-making stage, Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Food and Rural Affairs has released Liberal Democrat analysis of new figures showing that almost 10,000 whales were killed for ‘scientific purposes’ in the past 20 years, of which Japan was responsible for over 8,000.

Useless And Unused Supermarket Code Of Practice Must Be Rewritten
The Welsh Liberal Democrats today called for the Supermarket Code of Practice to be reformed and rewritten, saying the old Code- introduced in 2001- had categorically failed to protect farmers and suppliers from abuse by powerful supermarkets.

5000 People In Powys To Pay Back £4.3m In Tax Credit Overpayments
Powys MPs, Lembit Opik and Roger Williams today called for a total overhaul of the tax credit system after new figures revealed that nearly 10,000 people living in Cardiff are still being forced to payback over £8.4 million worth of tax credits, due to errors made by the HM Revenue and Customs.

ONE PENCE SINGLE FARM PAYMENT SHOWS GOVERNMENT’S BUREAUCRATIC SHAMBLES
Roger Williams MP, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesman, today revealed new figures which show the maze of red tape created by the Government’s single farm payments. The Government quango, the Rural Payments Agency:
• made a payment of just one pence
• received over half a million to their helpline in the past year, an average of over 4 calls per claimant
• has running costs of £250m (up by almost 35% in past 2 years)
• have admitted the IT system delivering the payments cost over £50m – up from the £34m original price tag.
