EU MUST COME TO THE RESCUE OF ENGLISH FARMERS
Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat spokesman for Rural Affairs, has today written to the European Agricultural Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel, urging her to consider the implementation of an EU scheme to compensate English farmers who have not yet received their Single Farm Payment.

MP JOINS IFAW FOR LAUCH OF LANDMARK REPORT ON SEAL HUNT
Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, joined the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), for the parliamentary launch of its landmark report, ‘Importing Cruelty’, which documents the cruelty of Canada’s commercial seal hunt and the need for a UK trade ban on seal products.

68% Of People Reject ID Cards In Williams’ Online Poll

Broadband better in Mozambique than Wales - WILLIAMS
Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on broadband in rural areas Roger Williams MP welcomed the announcement by the Welsh Assembly that BT would be given financial assistance to upgrade the 35 remaining telephone exchanges in Wales that are currently not delivering broadband. He pointed out that 9 of those exchanges served Brecon and Radnorshire, but existing upgraded exchanges are still failing to deliver broadband within their area because many people live too far away to make use of the facility.

WELSH LIB DEM MPS WELCOME CONTINUED SAFEGUARD FOR RURAL TELEPHONE BOXES
Way back in the summer of 2004 BT posted notices in 215 phone boxes in Powys indicating their intention to close them with only 42 days to object. Roger Williams MP and Lembit Opik MP campaigned to extend the consultation period so that local people could object through their county council. As a result very few phone boxes disappeared.
