Roger Williams MP leads delegation of hauliers to Welsh Office
12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 16th Jul 2008
Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, attended a meeting at the Welsh Office today between the local hauliers and The Minister of State at the Welsh Office, Huw Irranca-Davis MP, to discuss fuel prices.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Williams said:
"The delegation of local hauliers had an opportunity to put their concerns to the Minister about the impact of rising fuel prices on local haulage firms.
"Rising fuel prices have hit constituents in rural areas particularly hard and the financial implications for rurally based haulage firms are particularly severe given the huge amounts of fuel required to run their fleets.
"The talks were constructive and the Minister said that he would feedback our concerns to his colleagues at the Treasury.
"I will continue to press Government for a derogation for a rebate in rural areas and I hope that they will reconsider this issue as a matter of urgency."
