MP calls for Immediate Action on Overhead Telephone Cables

10.18.53am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 5th Sep 2008

"An accident waiting to happen" is how Brecon and Radnorshire MP Roger Williams has described the poor condition of overhead telephone lines between Monuaghty and Llangunllo in the North of Radnorshire.

Speaking following his recent visit to Llangunllo, which was part of his summer tour of the constituency, Mr Williams said "I was appalled by the terrible state of the overhead phone lines. In places they are sagging so low they are nearly touching the top of the hedgerows. If a lorry or tractor and trailer were to travel past they could easily get caught in the cables."

Mr Williams has called upon BT to act quickly on this issue. Mr Williams continued "With the profit BT make each year there is absolutely no excuse for the poor conditions of these overhead cables. I have written to BT to ask that they carry out remedial work immediately".
