A broad coalition of local organisations have today welcomed MP Roger Williams' support in Parliament for reviewing the existing Microgeneration Strategy, drawn up pursuant to the Energy Act 2004.
The MP for Brecon and Radnorshire has signed a House of Commons Early Day Motion which supports the Microgeneration and Local Energy Bill which calls on the Government to review and update the Energy Act 2004 and add the important fiscal strategy which will give the Bill real influence.
The existing Bill has worked well since entering the Statute book but will be greatly strengthened by a challenging fiscal strategy.
Roger Williams MP said
"I cannot stress too strongly how important it is that a strong fiscal strategy be agreed by the Government in order to drive through the measures encompassed in the Energy Act 2004. This successful Act has worked very well, but this is both a fast moving technology and an increasing problem for the world in terms of Climate Change and it is time that the Act was brought up to date.
I am pleased to add my strong support for Dr Alan Whitehead's Microgeneration and Local Energy Bill which will address both of these issues.
I would urge my colleagues in the House, of all political parties, to join me in supporting this important Bill"
Ron Bailey, the Campaign Organiser of the Sustainable Energy Partnership said:
"Roger Williams MP is to be congratulated for supporting Dr. Alan Whitehead's Microgeneration and Local Energy Bill. The Government is a key player in both setting an example to other world leaders and ending the profligate waste of non-sustainable resources."
