WILLIAMS EXPRESSES RECESSION CONCERN

1.44.14pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 24th Oct 2008

Commenting after it was revealed that in the last quarter the economy shrank by 0.5%, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Roger Williams MP said:

"This news will not come as a surprise to anyone, but it does confirm just how bad the situation is.

"While we are still not technically in recession, no one is in any doubt that we could be in for a long, and very serious, downturn.

"The whole world is experiencing difficulties, but the Government have to take responsibility for the fact that we are not in as good a position to respond as we should be.

"Now that ordinary people and small businesses are being clobbered because of the folly of bankers, the Government must ensure they take every possible measure to ease the pressure."
