ROGER WILLIAMS MP GRILLS HILARY BENN ON BOVINE TB ERADICATION GROUP
1.19.58pm GMT Fri 7th Nov 2008
Roger Williams MP, Liberal Democrat Food and Rural Affairs spokesperson, has grilled Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, on the formation of the bovine TB eradication group during an Environment Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee.
Speaking after the session, Mr Williams said:
"I had the opportunity to question the Secretary of State on the make-up and remit of the eradication group.
"My biggest concern was whether Mr Benn would limit the remit of the group and the recommendations that they would be able to make.
"Mr Benn assured me that there would be no limit to the issues that the group can explore.
"This will come as welcome news to the many farmers who have seen their livestock devastated by bovine TB.
"I also hope that the group will work expeditiously and with haste as there is some concern that it could be a sorting shop rather than an action group."
