MP VISITS INNOVATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT CENTRE

2.31.43pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 20th Oct 2009

Brecon & Radnorshire's MP, Roger Williams, visited the Pain Management Centre at Bronllys Community Hospital, near Brecon, today (Mon.). The centre is unique in Wales and one of the most innovative of its kind in the UK.

He met patients and had discussions with staff and Mr.Owen Hughes, a Consultant Counselling Psychologist and the Head of the Powys Teaching Local Health Board's Pain Management Service.

Commenting after the visit, Mr. Williams said:

" This is the only centre of its type in Wales and one of only five across the whole of the country. The aim of the clinic is to enable people with chronic conditions to take control of their lives, learn about their condition and manage their own health on a day to day basis. It is clear that the patients using the centre value the service a great deal."

Mr. Williams continued:

" I am sure that the tranquil setting within the extensive Bronllys Hospital site is a major asset and this is another example of how community hospitals can be used to deliver effective and innovative services, even in the most rural of areas."
