ROGER WILLIAMS CALLS FOR SENSIBLE PLANNING REGULATIONS
12.42.04pm GMT Tue 3rd Nov 2009
Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, today took part in a Westminster Hall debate on the issue of affordable rural housing. During the debate Mr Williams called for sensible planning regulations to be introduced to assist in the development of affordable properties in rural communities.
Speaking after the debate, Mr Williams said:
"Housing is a key issue in rural areas and access to affordable housing is a major concern for many of my constituents.
"Young people and new families in particular find it difficult to get the necessary finance to purchase their own property and the knock-on effect of this on sustainable rural communities is potentially very damaging.
"As a civilised society we should be ensuring that everyone has access to affordable housing.
"I am pleased that Powys has employed another rural housing enabler tasked to facilitate the development of social rented and affordable houses in rural villages.
"I have recently met with Clyro Community Council to discuss these issues and I know the rural housing enabler has been identifying land owned by the local authority in the village with the aim of bringing forward a scheme for consultation.
