How I Can Help

Roger planting an inaugural tree at Llanigon Primary School

As your elected member of parliament, I am here to help you and represent your views, no matter how you voted in the last election.

As long as you are one of my constituents, there are many ways in which I can make a difference and, hopefully, solve your problem. In the event that I can't, I will usually be able to point you towards someone who can be of assistance, so don't hesitate to get in touch. I am always happy to help.

Not sure if I am your MP?

MPs deal with a broad range of issues and it can sometimes be difficult to work out on which matters your to consult your MP. To try and guide you, here are a few examples of things I can and can't do to help:

Things I Can Do

  • Listen to your views on any local or national issue. Your views are important to me and they can help shape Lib Dem policy and raise awareness on issues so small that I can push for government action.

  • Make sure that the voice of the people of Brecon and Radnorshire is heard, by representing your interests and needs in the House of Commons and raising problems with the appropriate government minister.

  • Take up an issue on your behalf: if you are having problems with local issues such as housing, education, anti-social behaviour, unemployment or health, or are experiencing difficulties with benefits, asylum, visa applications or pensions, I can usually do something to solve your problem.

  • If you have a complaint about the maladministration of a government agency (a department, an executive agency or a quango) and I cannot resolve it myself by writing to or meeting the appropriate person, I can contact the parliamentary ombudsman on your behalf.

  • I can also contact the local government ombudsman if you have a complaint about the maladministration of a local council. Ombudsmen do not deal with problems relating to policy (politicians do that), they only deal with errors of administration (delays, poor decision-making), which have damaged or affected individuals personally.

  • Where national and local government come together to provide resources and deliver services, I can collaborate with Powys county councillors and community councillors to achieve faster and better results in resolving problems.

Things I Can't Do

  • As I am not a trained lawyer, I am not qualified to give you legal advice. You may be entitled to free legal advice and we can help you find a lawyer.

Still Not Sure If I Can Help?

If you are in any doubt, don't hesitate to contact my office. If we cannot help you ourselves we can usually head you in the right direction.
